The 6th presidential interview of news/talk radio station DZMM's #IkawNaBa program hosted Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, one of the top running presidential candidates in the upcoming 2016 elections. He filed his Certificate of Candidacy (COC) for president under the Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan party (PDP-Laban).
Well known for his tough brand of leadership and ferociousness to criminals, he has been hailed as the Iron Fist of Davao City, implementing strict laws of discipline. His reputation for being cold-blooded to lawbreakers is certainly well-documented. So in a two-hour interview with Karen Davila, the professional broadcast journalist and television host shared the highlights of her discussion with Mayor Duterte and spotlights the significance of the interview.
Rodrigo Duterte was first elected as the mayor of Davao City in 1988 and since then, his tenacity and unsparing conduct in dealing with criminals have begun. Just three months in his first term as a mayor of the city, his wrath for lawbreakers have been already felt when he admitted he killed 3 kidnappers who resisted arrest and did not think twice of shooting the criminals.
He said that he isn't afraid to take away the lives of criminals if it is for the betterment of the people he's serving. Although his style of leadership had many doubting if law and justice will be ignored once he is elected as president, Mayor Duterte made it clear that he will not advocate extra judicial killings, but will bring back the death penalty for people who will commit heinous acts and crimes like drug trafficking and murder.
He will focus primarily on the peace and order of the country, and will ensure the safety and well-being of everyone in the nation without having to fear for their lives in the hands of criminals. Many were also concerned of Duterte's character, especially when he cursed Pope Francis over the heavy traffic during his visit, but he did not mention any swear words during the interview, and apologized for cursing the Pope.
He said that he will also prioritize infrastructure, CCT and the income tax reform. Truly the interview gave insight to people, and these are some of the main spotlights of Karen Davila's interview with Mayor Rodrigo Duterte. He has been making waves throughout the entire nation since he announced he was running for president this upcoming elections, and it appears that the country's call has been answered.
