Last Tuesday, October 13, 2015, Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago’s declaration of presidential candidacy was heard across the nation. Filipino citizens were mostly astounded while others had felt the excitement, for as 2016 Elections became nearer, the competition among the candidates are getting tougher. The sudden affirmation of the well-known clever senator is surely knitting the curious and looking-forward brows of everyone. She declared her run for president the same time she had her book signing for “Stupid is Forever More.”
“If I
become president sometime in the very near future, this country will be much
better than it was before. Today this country suffers from the malaise of
plunder,” Santiago elucidated.
Now that
Santiago had officially announced her run for presidency, many are inquiring
about who will be the senator’s running mate. According to the political news
blog “Politiko,” they have learned that Senator Miriam Santiago will be running
along with Senator Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. A source told them
that Marcos had a serious discussion with the senator along with her husband
Jun Santiago, proposing his running plans as Senator Miriam’s vice president.
Santiago
gave a hint last Tuesday that his possible running-mate is one of the vice
presidential candidates who had already declared his political intentions.
“He
already announced. We’ll be running together. I can’t give the answer because
his wife might scold him,” she said to the reporters.
But as of this day, October 15,2015, the official news site of ABS-CBN network released the news stating that Sen. Miriam Santiago had finally confirmed that her
running-mate will be no other than Sen. Bongbong Marcos.
"We
mutually chose each other, our two camps. One camp was calling the other
camp," Santiago asserted.
