Former Senator Joker Arroyo Dies at the Age of 88

;
One of the Philippines’ praiseworthy former senators, Joker Arroyo, had just passed away last October 5, 2015 due to his serious heart illness. His life peacefully ended at the age of 88. According to reports, Former Senator Rene Saguisag stated that Arroyo died in the United States after an unsuccessful heart operation.

Many Filipinos including the politicians who have worked with Arroyo are in their melancholic state. Joker Arroyo, tracing his works and years in service, has done a lot of remarkable acts and has genuinely served the Filipinos with bursting passion. On September 1972, President Ferdinand Marcos released his Proclamation Act placing Philippines under martial law and the former senator is the very first lawyer to challenge and question its legality under the 1935 Philippine Constitution. Arroyo was also appointed as the executive secretary under President Corazon Aquino’s term. Years after, he had worked as Makati City's congressman for nine years and had served the Philippine Senate for 12 years. During his term at the 13th congress, Arroyo has chaired the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee, the Senate Justice, the Human Rights Committee and the Senate Public Services Committee. His term ended on June 30, 2013.

Joker Arroyo hasn’t been involved in immense political issues such as the pork barrel scam. In fact, he was the one who endorsed Former President Joseph Estrada’s impeachment and he was also the lead prosecutor of Estrada's trial.

Arroyo has also received various awards and commendations for his significant works in his profession and in public service. Our nation is in grief today for one of his mighty people who have given his utmost service for the country has just passed away. May you find rest in peace, Senator Joker Arroyo.
