Manicure Equipment Sharing Caused a Woman to be HIV-Positive

;
Human Immunodeficiency Virus or commonly known as HIV is one of the dangerous diseases that can be easily transmitted especially without awareness. It can be possibly acquired through unprotected sexual intercourse, blood transfusion and needle sharing.

But the case of a 22 year old Brazilian woman whose blood when tested revealed to be HIV-Positive is odd. The odd thing is that she was very certain that she didn’t acquire it through needles or unprotected intercourse but she claimed that she got it when she shared her manicure equipment with her cousin who was later found out to be real HIV-Positive.

According to findings, their viruses have the common ancestors. But Dr. Brian Foley of the HIV Sequence Database reminded everyone that this case is very rare and risk of infection is very low. This event should not make people scared in having contact with HIV-infected people. He reminded everyone that casual contact like drinking with the same glass or eating with same utensils are not the reasons of HIV transmission but we need to avoid sharing equipments that involves possible blood to blood contacts. source: wereblog
